Ingredients
- 2 cups warm (not hot) water
- 2 teaspoons (or 1 ¼ oz packet) of yeast
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 5 cups of flour
- A little butter
Directions
- Mix the yeast into the warm water.
- In a large bowl, combine the salt and flour.
- Combine the flour/salt mixture and the yeast/water mixture, stirring.
- Continue stirring until the dough holds together and is not wet.
- Place on a clean, dry surface and kneed until smooth; probably about 10 minutes.
- Divide and shape into 3 loaves and place on a greased or parchment paper covered baking tray.
- Grease the top of the loaves with butter.
- Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and set in a warm place to rise.
- Let rise until approximately twice the size, which may take 30-60 minutes depending on temperature (or leave overnight).
- Preheat an oven to 450° Farenheit.
- Cut several diagonal slashes across the top of each loaf.
- Bake for 18 minutes at 450° Farenheit (or perhaps a little less).
- Remove from the oven, remove from the baking tray and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes.
